"I don't consider my own clothing to be outrageous... The truth is that people just don't have the same references that I do. To me it's very beautiful and it's art, and to them it's outrageous and crazy" - Lady Gaga

Harajuku in Los Angeles – Beyond the Fashion Walk (2020-ongoing)

Time brings about inevitable transformations. After many years and numerous friendships, Harajuku in Los Angeles looks beyond the fashion walk. Driven by my passion for Los Angeles and its communities, I began photographing alternative fashion dressers inspired by Harajuku. This street style originated in Harajuku, Japan, and focuses on community and freedom of expression. It is ever present in L.A.

Beyond the Fashion Walk is my photographic narrative of what it means to be Harajuku in Los Angeles. These images portray Harajuku-inspired individuals at home, work, natural settings, urban environments, and more, chronicling daily life. Individuals are in their environment, giving them space to reveal. It is exceedingly collaborative and provides a duo platform for creative expression - theirs and mine.

Harajuku in Los Angeles is a multi-series that embraces portraiture and celebrates Harajuku fashion-inspired individuals in Los Angeles. Beyond the Fashion Walk marks the culmination of this three-part photographic portrait project.
